If you have an interest in photography and would like to start your own business, it’s certainly a question worth asking!
One of the first things to decide is what kind of photography you’re most interested in. Most people have a favorite photo subject, and enjoy taking one sort of pictures more than others. - Visit Your Local SCORE Office: Make an appointment with a mentor or attend a workshop.

- Business eNewsletters: Biz tips and interview with leading experts. Read samples.
If you are interested in meeting with someone face to face, you can find out the location of the nearest SCORE office by checking out their website.
Another way to get help starting a photography business is to look for a mentor. Sometimes you can work as an assistant to an established pro photographer, and learn the ropes that way. Or perhaps you can find someone doing the kind of business you’d like to establish who would be willing to offer you advice on starting your own photography business. If you choose to try this, be sure you find someone in a non-competitive location to where you want to start your business. It wouldn’t be very fair to ask someone to help you learn how to start a business, then set one up in direct competition to them after they were nice enough to help you out!
A popular option is to buy a course on starting a photography business. Some of these are very generalized and can give you an overview of a photography business. Others are more specific and can help you with advice on starting exactly the kind of photo business you’d like.
