Photoshop is no doubt one of the finest photo editing software programs out there, but what if you can’t afford it right now?
Buy Adobe Photo Elements 8.0 instead!
It has many of the same features of Photoshop, and for a lot of people, maybe all they ever need.
First off, although Photo Elements 9 is available, you can do quite well with an older edition of software and it’s cheaper to buy. Sure, it may be missing some of the newest bells and whistles, but for the most part, it’s going to be a very solid program. It’s a great way to get started.
Secondly, although Photoshop is no doubt a top notice program for photographers, you can do a lot of the same stuff with Photo Elements. Naturally, there are some functions missing, but it still does a super job and you can learn a lot by using Elements.

Even better, there are some things that Photoshop Elements has that aren’t included in Photoshop. This includes:
- Automatically divide scanned photos
- Multi-page documents
- Smart brush tool
- Additional Photomerge modes, like Group Shot, Scene Cleaner, Faces, and Style Match
- Guided Edits and Quick Fix mode
- Multi-file processing without the need to record an action
- Drop-in frames, backgrounds, and artwork
- Photo creation templates for photo books, greeting cards, calendars, and more.
- Easy online sharing options for Facebook, Flickr, etc.
- Cookie cutter tool
- A powerful Photo Organizer
If you look around, you can get some really sweet deals. One of my favorites is a bundled package like the one offered with Adobe Photo Elements 8.0 and Adobe Premiere Elements 8, PLUS a Treefrog bendable tripod and camera cleaning kit.
All for under $40!
That’s hard to beat. You get great software, a neat tripod, and the always useful camera cleaning kit.
